Department, Dr. Lakshmi Jaganathan has instituted Shri. Srinivasan Memorial
Trophy for the Best Outgoing student of the department. For this academic year,
the trophy was awarded to K. Revathi of III B.Sc. Physics for her performance
in academic and extracurricular activities.
To
promote research activities among the students, the Department also organised
one day training programme on the concepts of physics using MATLAB software on
January 25, 2018 . Ms. S. Kanaka Durga, Assistant Professor, Department of
Physics, Quaid-E-Millath Govt. College for Women was the resource person. The
aim of the workshop
is to create a platform for the beginners to learn a computational language and
gain additional skills to face the challenges in the competitive world. Nearly
50 Students have participated in the workshop. Six students have worked on project to solve
numerical methods problems using C Programming – finding the roots using
Bisection Method, Solving equations using Elimination Method, Curve Fitting to
develop their interest among research activities.
The
department organized a field visit to Regional Meteorological Department on
January 19, 2018 to gain knowledge regarding weather forecast and instruments
to recording the temperature of the particular area and satellite communication
for transmitting the weather related datas to the public and prediction of
cyclone formation etc. Around 40 students have visited the centre.
The
Department organized a Career Guidance Programme for the students on February
6, 2018. Dr. D. Nedumaran, Associate
Professor, Head, Department of Central
Instrumentation & Service Laboratory, University of Madras was the
